I love making bread, especially challah.
i was making a pear challah and I was going to put honey in it then i changed my mind and used some salted caramel instead sauce instead it was lovely. If you don’t have any then try adding 3/4 cup of honey and only add 180ml water.
3 and half cups strong white flour
1 sachet of fast action yeast
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp salt
2 pears chopped finely
4 tbsp salted caramel
1/4 cup almonds
5 tbsp butter
1 sprig of rosemary finely chopped
in a bowl add the flour salt, sugar, yeast, eggs, rosemary and salted caramel then add the water.
mix for two minutes then add the butter, mix again for a minute then add the pear and almonds and mix for 2 more minutes.
place in an oiled bowl for at least an hour.
Once doubled in size knock out air and cut into three pieces.
Roll out into ropes then plait.
Place on a lined baking tray and leave to rise again for another hour
mix an egg and a tbsp milk and brush on to the bread the sprinkle on some pearl sugar and almonds.
Preheat oven to 180c 350f
bake for 35 to 45 minutes
wait to cool then slice and enjoy.
